So it is the beginning of a new adventure in our lives. It has been a little over a month since Rory first arrived in Montreal to begin studying at Concordia University. I can’t believe I’ve already been here for a few weeks! Time really does fly and I’m realizing that more and more as each day passes.
Being in a new environment, whether it be a town, city, state or country really changes one’s perceptions about life (in a good way of course). Taking those steps out of your comfort zone into an unknown environment brings purpose, meaning & everything you care about into focus & all the trivial and unimportant things that seemed to matter before somehow now fade into the background out of focus.
I have kept something my mom said to me when i left, “As each day passes, you bring who you are to your new surroundings and you will feel more attached.” One day at a time we are taking in the new experiences this move will bring, good or bad and come out as better people.
where we live, proche de la chemin de la cote des neiges!
Rory & I have been keeping ourselves busy with fixing up the apartment and making it feel like home, riding bikes, watching movies, studying french, reading, taking walks & hikes up and around Mont Royal (which is very close to our apartment). Yesterday we took a bike ride into town (which is an easy ride down because it is down the mountain side – although riding back up is another story) to attend some free workshops that Kodak was putting on at Rory’s school. It was motivating to hear people talk about films and all of that. The best part was that we made out like bandits & took the leftover croissants from the morning lectures along with some cookies & fruit! Living on such a tight budget makes you appreciate free food that much more!
Speaking of food, Rory has been making delicious dinners pretty much every night. Maki Sushi, Indian Curry Chicken and Stir Fry, gourmet omlettes, banana and pumpkin bread, homemade mac n cheese, stuffed peppers and vanilla poached pears with chocolate sauce!
So let us know when you’d like to come and visit and we will be happy to host you in our new apartment & serve you delicious dinners! I’ve been taking pictures of our adventures in Montreal to date (including those of the apartment) but because I have a manual camera you’ll all have to wait until I get them developed (for now we don’t have the luxury of a digital camera) But on the upside I do have some pictures (which I’ve included below) that I took the weekend my mom helped me move in. I hope you all do consider coming to visit – we would love to have you.
