so, having low cash flow during the holidays sure does spark the creative energy inside you! i have always preferred making presents for friends and family but this year i took it to a whole new level. for about 3 weeks rory and i made 10-15 homemade cards a week. we ended up making like 40 something cards! it was totally worth the effort though, lining them all up waiting to be stuffed in their envelopes addressed to their special recipients. my mom and sister told us that people would pay for the cards we made – to have custom homemade cards for all occasions. it definitely got me thinking – i’ve always been told that i should start selling the cards that i make to companies. my mom says it’s a talent to write the way i do and that it would impact a lot of people. so if any of you need or would like personalized cards – using old photographs, or hand drawings, or mixed media etc let me know! it’d be fun anyway.
i also made my mom, dad and sister special mixed media presents for their gifts this year. i made transfers of old photographs, and used all different kinds of paper, paint, dried flowers and lots of other cool stuff to create each of them through my own eyes. i wanted to do something like a self portrait but to have it more of a reflection of their life and the many layers that made them who they are… full of life, memories, moments, love, and everything else… they came out better than i had expected which i was excited about since it was my first time using all of those mediums together. rory got me this cool mixed media/collage book for xmas so hopefully i’ll get to a few of the projects in there within the next few weeks. here’s to the new year!
