the one day i wasn’t helping out in the yard i was partaking in the celebration of grammie reardon’s 70th birthday! grampie reardon organized a big lunch for her and all of the family attended (all 6 families with children in tow). rory and i wanted to do something really special for her – to honor her life and to really showcase her in some way – so we decided to put together a slide show of her life. in order to get all the pictures that we needed we had a lot of help from rory’s aunts who even did a bit of sneaking around in their parents house to find the really old pictures! we had been working on it everyday for a week piece by piece and it was really coming together. we even did some stop motion animation for transitions and the end sequence that came out pretty great. the night before we were to leave for the cape we were up until 5 a.m. putting it all together and adding the finishing touches. the lack of sleep was totally worth it seeing her watch her life up there on that screen. all 70 years before us in 20 minutes. in those 20 minutes we watched eileen transformm from a little girl to a young woman to a wife to a mother to a grandmother – in putting this tribute together for eileen i realized just how significant her life is to all 27 + of us. as i looked around the room i realized that no one in this room would be here if not for her. she was the center of it all – the center of life. i think everyone else realized it in the room too and we were all truly grateful to share that moment with her.
