New Years ’09

We were lucky enough to ring in the New Year/Rory’s day of birth with two of our greatest friends, Athena & Ben. Every time we hang out with them it motivates and inspires us. They told us they were heading to Allston for a New Years Chocolate Celebration. Their friends have put on this party for a few years now. One of them is an excellent baker and his specialty is anything chocolate. Each room had a theme and we got to try chocolate pies, cakes, mousse, bread, candied fruits dipped in chocolate, homemade chocolate bars and my favorite the chocolate truffles. There was even chocolate beer. It was pretty fantastic all the craftsmanship and love put into each dish – we were all quite impressed by it. I was also impressed by the amount of people that braved the extra chilly night to spend New Years together. Boston is a pretty cool city with equally cool people, young and old so I felt good that we rang in the New Year there.

After the party we danced for a good 15 minutes waiting for a bus or a cab (whatever came first) to bring us to the T in Harvard Square. We got a half dozen or so honks from people driving by – it was pretty fantastic! We spent the night at their apartment and woke up to a delicious breakfast to start off the New Year right. Sometimes with our experience on New Years there are too many expectations of how awesome it’s going to be or sometimes if there’s not an awesome plan people get upset but really it just comes down to being surrounded by people who you connect with. That alone can fill you with the right energy. Last year we spent New Years up in Montreal at our apartment with Rory’s Aunt & Uncle and it was one of the best New Years we have ever had. Just a simple evening, with good people, thoughtful conversation and yummy food. I have to say that I’m glad that it turned out that way again this year. I can feel it in my bones that 2009 is going to be an excellent year…
