My other favorite experience this winter was the Best Burn ’09. Every year the Mauro’s have a New Years Christmas Tree Burning fiesta – and the winner gets a trophy (usually a large piece of furniture or homemade wooden object) and they can choose whether or not they’d like to bring it home or burn it in the fire. Sadly, my tree didn’t even make it into the top 3 but I’d say it was a pretty good burn. When we arrived we expected a good amount of people but I’d say there were easily 50 people or more it was awesome. Our friend Bob came down from Peabody and Tom who was in from Louisiana visiting family also made the trek down later that evening. Mandi even made a surprise cameo which was totally unexpected. It was a pretty cool day. On a side note Joe’s dad is amazing – he makes his own wine and brews his own beer. Him and Joe even made their own sausage and were grilling them up for everyone. We ended the night with board games sitting near the warm wood stove… what more can you ask for on a winter night?
