The Root River Trail

On our second day on Kara Kahl Farm we ventured out on a trip to the River Root Bike Trail just a few minutes down the road. It’s a 60-mile paved trail that follows the root river through forests and 300 foot bluffs. Everyone who saw our bikes on the roof of the car suggested that we check out the trail and that’s exactly what we did. The eastern trail head started at the Nature Center – which holds the only all-owl event in North America – the International Festival of Owls. The festival is held in March & I just might have to go next year (I love owls). Anyway, the bike trail was a lot different than the bike trails back home – lots of prairies and open space but I could appreciate it all that much more purely because I have never experienced it before. We biked for about an hour and headed back to the trail head so that we’d be back in time for chores.

When we returned we had some time to spare and stopped in at a local cafe – Barista’s Coffee House where we indulged in the most delicious smoothies ever. We certainly had a king’s thirst but I truly believe that it was on the top of my list for best smoothies of all time.. and I’ve had a lot of smoothies in my lifetime. Anyway, through our travels a constant quote has been coming up.. “It’s not the destination it’s the journey” – especially when people ask what our final destination is and we say we don’t know.. So it was a nice surprise when we walked in the door to the cafe and was on the specials board. It’s always nice to be reminded of all that we feel…
