To the Redwood to the Redwood…

The Coast Redwoods – Sequoia sempervirens – the most beautiful trees I have ever seen. Like the native people that once lived in these coastal forests we honored their spirits as we hiked, camped and spent a few days enjoying their deep, rich beauty. We spent our first night at the Prairie Creek State Park in the Redwoods N.P. and were camping right near this large open meadow. When we arrived we were greeted by a few dozen elk grazing and lounging in the field. They were graceful with their movements and watched and listened closely. Time was on their side. We watched them for a while as they slowly made their way across the pasture. What a simple life it must be.

It reminded me of our life on the road. Going from place to place with no worries other than food, shelter, sleep and safety. When problems are immediate as are solutions. An open road gives you eyes of a child. Everything is new, bright, and amazing. Everyday is a gift to be unwrapped slowly with an excited patience. And here we were nestled in and about to explore the magnificent redwood forest… Life really is a gift waiting to be unwrapped.
