After leaving the nest we created in NW Portland with my cousin, Rory and I managed to find the next best thing in SE Portland at our new place in Chelsea’s home. We’ve been here since mid-July and it has been awesome. Chelsea’s really cool.. she’s from Montana and grew up hunting with her dad, canning the fruits of harvest and she even has her own garden. She’s a few years younger than us but you would never guess that – she is wise beyond her years and has a lot of respect for the people around her. Rory and I couldn’t have found a better match really. It’s positive energy flowing here most of the time! Since we’ve been here we’ve been helping around the house and in her garden and she couldn’t be more thrilled.. it’s awesome! Between the 4 of us (Chelsea’s boyfriend, Paul included) we’re been cooking fabulous family dinners, baking pies, breads and other delicious sweets and canning lots of jam, tomato sauce, plum butter and much more. It’s been the summer of YUM!
A few weeks back Chelsea, Paul and myself all went 40 minutes south of Portland to go blueberry picking. We had the ultimate haul of 17lbs of berries at $1 a pound it was a steal. Afterwards we headed down the road to the state park close by and went for a swim in the river. We found the most amazingly plump blackberries in the land and also filled up on those. When we got home Chelsea canned a dozen or so jars of blueberry jam and I made a Blackberry-Basil crumble. All in a days work.
Rory has also had his hands in a few projects around the house – building a compost bin, a shelf for the bedroom and has been embarking on his sourdough bread journey. Every couple of days he has been making a new loaf of tasty bread. I imagine within a few months time he will be the bread master! I believe it’s really important to contribute and be a part of the place you live – even if it’s not your house it creates this amazing positive energy and motivates everyone else to be a part of it. We can’t forget to mention the colorful characters we’ve been living with as well – Mr. Tibbs, Smokey & Morty (her kitties) who give us something to talk about each day. Living with Chelsea has been an awesome experience – she’s a great housemate but even more than that… a great friend. Hanging out with her and Paul has given us a strong connection to this new place. Giving us just one more reason to add another great thing to the list of amazing people/places we’ve discovered on our journey…
