The weekend of our visit Ryan and Becky had 2 weddings to go to – so on Saturday since everyone in town was going to be at the wedding we filled in for the morning and did a bit of work for Ryan’s friend cleaning cabins. We were psyched since we were running low on dough and finished by the early afternoon so we have plenty of time to go on a hike!
Ryan returned home from the wedding early so he joined us for the afternoon. We went up to the Cascade trail in Moran State Park. Fresh air, old douglas firs, mossy rocks and rushing waterfalls made for a beautiful hike in the woods. Afterwards we headed up Mt. Constitution to get a 360 view of the island. Before arriving at the top of the mountain we hiked around Mountain Lake where we found a rope swing that Rory and Ryan were brave enough to try. A few women stopped by to watch and we got to talking. Asking us of our travels and talking about the beauty we have all found along the way. It was nice.
After they swam across to the island in the lake and back we headed for the top of the mountain. I thought that seeing exactly where we were would give me perspective on where I was .. but just like the Canyonlands in Utah – the landscape just went on forever. How could one possibly place themselves in such expansive beauty? Miles upon miles of ocean – there was simply just too much beauty to see. After taking it all in we headed back down the mountain side and caught a glimpse of the sunset. We stopped to have a picnic and take in the view. We talked a lot of people we know and love and shared good company.
We made it back in time for dinner with Becky who was let off early from work. Ry shared with us some of his sweet new dance moves as well as some new tunes he’s been working on. I feel quite blessed being around so many passionate people. People that, despite all the negative experiences that happen around us each day, can let flow that positive creative energy that we have inside ourselves. It was a good day and we were looking forward to a morning of adventure before we took off for Portland the next afternoon….
