Waking up after a full, blue moon night I felt that all was beautiful in the World. I had a dream of farm-like things and a boy whom I kissed with a horn on his tongue. I made oatmeal and tea and played some songs on the guitar. It was my first New Years away from my friends back home. The magic of the night was paired with the blue moon high in the clear hawaiian sky. That afternoon Jess and I headed down to the local thrift store to pick out some fancy duds for our New Years extravaganza. We couldn’t believe what we found and were excited to share with everybody back on the farm. I put up my hair and made a fancy up do out of Jess’ luxurious mane – each accentuated with a white and pink hibiscus flower. Our ridiculous outfits inspired Julia and Amelia to go through the warehouse bins to find some gems of their own.
The ladies proceeded to have a dance party in the warehouse which led to a dance party in the lettuce beds. Luke later joined in on some of the activity which was amazing. The moon lit our way through the beds, around the farm and eventually up to the fire that was going on up on the hill. No need for flashlights. We used the celestial heavens as our guides. We roasted bananas in tin foil with peanut butter and chocolate.. a dish inspired by my first week here on the island in Pahoa. We lit sparklers and danced around the fire as we started the countdown.
I welcomed 2010 with a kiss from Jess. We spent the next hour and a half lying under a blanket of stars and a very bright blue moon. Upon the late hour we decided to get up and brush our teeth. We grabbed Jess’ laundry while in the warehouse and hung it in the moon lit air. We hugged each other goodnight and counted our blessings on such a days ends. Neither one of us could say what was next but we were both excited to find what this year would bring.
